Soms is het niet meer bij te houden. Zó zit je in een radio-uitzending met onder andere Janneke Monshouwer over het referendum van a.s. woensdag te praten en zó zit je een paar minuten daarna ellenlange berichten te lezen over grootscheepse, wereldwijde belastingfraude omdat de Panama Papers naar buiten rollen als ‘Wiki- Picky- Tricky- Slicky-leaks’. Er zijn maar liefst 11,5 miljoen bestanden gelekt bij het Panamese advocatenkantoor Mossack Fonseca.

En het is nog maar het begin van een enorme ‘Disclosure’ (onhulling). Een ‘Full disclosure’ wel te verstaan. Ik krijg er al een tijdje informatie over binnen: absoluuut geen gedeeltelijke onthullingen zoals de griezelige schaduw-machthebbers willen, maar ‘Full disclosure’. Houd je maar goed vast aan de metalen stang van je karretje op de achtbaan. We zullen nog veel te verstouwen krijgen.

Wat als… de aliens op aarde landen?

Wat gaan we doen? Wie spreekt er namens de mensheid? Wat gaan we zeggen (en wat verzwijgen)? Kortom: hoe pakken we dat aan?

Recent onderzoek suggereert dat in onze Melkweg alleen al miljarden sterren te vinden zijn die één tot drie leefbare planeten hebben. Of er op die planeten ook werkelijk leven is, blijft gissen. Maar mede door dit soort onderzoeken wordt het steeds lastiger jezelf voor te stellen dat wij de enige levende wezens in dit enorme universum zijn. Volgens sommige onderzoekers is het een kwestie van tijd: op korte termijn vinden we, geholpen door krachtige telescopen zoals de James Webb, tekenen van buitenaards leven.

But this should only be a last resort when other methods have failed

Scientists wanting to develop a spacecraft carrying a nuclear device to blow up asteroids are preparing to seek funding this year.
Called the Hyper Velocity Asteroid Impact Vehicle (HAIV), their system would be able to launch and reach an Earth-bound asteroid within 100 days or so, destroying it before it reached our planet.
But the unmanned spacecraft relies on one crucial aspect - tracking and finding an asteroid, before it is too late to stop it impacting Earth.
